Dr. Cornel West has consistently been an outspoken critic of President Obama. On a recent episode of Smiley and West, Dr. West made the following statements in regards to the silence on gun control and violence facing other communities aside from Newtown, Connecticut.
…I think it’s not just Barack Obama, it’s our politicians across the board, across color, across class. They’re either cowards or hypocrites when it comes to this issue of our precious children. By cowards I mean they care but they don’t have the courage to move forward and act. Or they’re hypocrites which is to say they say they care but deep down they don’t care especially when it relates to South Side of Chicago, Harlem, children across the board…
QUESTIONS: Do you believe there is a double standard pertaining to deaths attributed to gun violence in the United States and the world? Why are some lives valued more than others? Drone attacks have recently killed children throughout the world (Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, etc.) Do you disagree with Dr. Cornel West or is he on point and keeping it real?
Perhaps more people should speak out like Dr. West, the Advancement Project and MoveOn.org to take action against the violence that is claiming the innocent lives of children within the US and throughout the world.
